The business was founded by Dr John NB Irving in 1991 in Wiltshire, UK. He is still at at the helm of the business today. The Keratex range has expanded and still continues to grow to include other associated products.
Keratex Hoof Hardener is recommended for the creation of strong hooves for horses. Acting specifically on keratin, the protein which forms most of the hoof, this products qualities have made it a popular choice among horse owners. Many of the country’s top riders and their teams already use this product.

If your horse has brittle, weak or cracked hooves, or you don’t want to shoe your horse, Hoof Hardener will work for you. It’s also great for horses who tend to throw their shoes.
One 250ml bottle lasts for around three months.

Does Keratex work? Here’s the views of users from across the internet;
I started to use the Keratex Hoof Hardener when my one horse (who doesnt wear shoes) started to get brittle feet and tiny cracks started to appear. A few other people on my hard were using it and when my farrier came out to trim him he recommended it to me but just to use until there was a shown improvement in the feet. I went along to my local shop and bought a bottle (its not cheap) and started to apply it daily when his feet were dry. The smell is pleasant to start off with and then it gets pungent! Strengthens poor quality hoof walls so that shoes stay on tight and allows lightly worked horses to remain sound without shoes. It does not produce a surface coating thereby allowing the hoof to breathe and function naturally and works by improving and strengthening the molecular structure of hoofwalls and soles. A little brush came with the pack I bought but I opted to use a normal hoof oil brush. After a few a weeks I noticed an improvement and now my farrier checks his feet every time he comes out to be trimmed. My horse hasnt worn shoes for about a year so basically his feet were adjusting and Keratex really helped that adjustment. It takes upto a year for a horse to grow new hooves and Im glad I used Keratex to help this process. Now his hooves look so much better and they arent cracking. However I wouldnt use Keratex for longer than recommended.
“We always call my horse “Old Rotten Footed Rex” due to his cracked hooves, ability to lose shoes, etc. However, once I discovered this stuff (thanks to my farrier) he’s been doing great. Knock on wood…haven’t lost a shoe since! Defiintely recommend”
“This product helps keep my barefoot horses sound, even in the rainy summer months.”
“I have a 23 year old appaloosa for my son. I bought this horse almost three years ago and my son has only ridden him about 12 times because his feet are so terrible. Most of the time there is no hoof to nail to, and when there is, the shoes were only staying on about two weeks. I had considered selling the horse, but my son just loves him and he really is a wonderful horse so I decided to keep trying. I have tried many supplements, including Lin-Pro from Smart-Pak and I did see a lot of new growth while using it, but it is expensive and his feet where still breaking apart even when the new hoof growth finally reached the ground. He was to the point that his walls were so broken that his white line was the outermost part of his hoof and it was in full contact with the ground!
I then started looking into other options and that is when I found Keretex. The biggest selling point for me were the number of positive reviews. It is a bit pricey, but it was basically my last hope. I started used Keretex about two weeks ago and I have noticed a HUGE difference in my horses feet! So much so that I took pictures of his feet last night to send to a friend of mine who was interested in trying this product. I only wish I had taken before photos also! Keretex has stopped ALL cracking and he is walking much better! He still has the cracks that were there when I started the Keretex, but they have not gotten any worse and there are no new cracks. He is still tender, but at least he is walking around now and not standing still with his feet parked out like a walking horse! All this in only two weeks time, this stuff is really amazing! I was so skeptical and I really didn’t believe there was anything out there that could help this guy, but I have found it in Keretex. I have decided to keep this horse barefoot, I’m just too afraid to put holes in his walls now that they are this nice for the first time since we have owned him, I will just use a set of boots on him when my son wants to ride.
I have been using the Keretex every day, once a day since I started it two weeks ago. I plan to continue with once a day for about another week then drop down to ever other day or every second day till it’s gone then continue with the Keretex Gel for maintenance.
FINALLY A GREAT PRODUCT THAT REALLY WORKS! THANK YOU KERETEX!!!”
“I just started using this product a week ago and can already see an improvement! I am excited about the progress that has been made in a week and I cannot wait to see what my farrier says when it is time for shoes again. The product is a little pricey, but I think it is worth it.” “I have tried nearly every combination of nutrition and topical hoof care products available. Though I have occastionally seen some improvements, nothing comes close to what keratex hoof hardener does. I wish I had started using it a long time ago instead of wasting all the time (and money) on other half measures.
Strengthened the hoof, stopped cracking, and toughened the soles. Just like they say!
My farrier is thrilled. I’ve made his job a lot easier, and my horses’ feet are great again.”
“This prodeuct was recommended by our farrier when our horse shown severe chipping/peeling on his back hooves in spring. Dramatic reaults in preventing the constant chipping. Would suggest pouring a little of the product in another container when applying the product as I’ve managed to knock our the bottle a few times and waste a lot. Also, Smartpak price point is lower that local tack shops which will allow me to continue to use Keretex.” “I applied this product regularly to the soles of my horse’s feet when he got his shoes pulled because he had never been without shoes and his feet were in really bad shape. It seemed to work, but I’m not sure if it worked better than cheaper products, such as venice turpentine. The application process was also annoying because the tall bottle had a tendency to get knocked over when I went to dip the brush in it. This, considering the cost, was not good!” “This product was just what I needed for all of the horses in my barn. Due to the wet weather we’ve been having, I’ve been battling muddy turnout conditions, and thrush, and soft feet have been a problem. With the addition of Keratex into my hoof care program, I’m seeing stronger hooves, and less issues with thrush! Very pleased with this product, and my farrier is quite happy with me as well!”
“Didn’t tell my farrier I was using Keratex and after doing 3 feet, he asked what I’ve been doing different. “Hooves seem harder and take a nail better”. Also feeding Smarthoof, so who knows, but who cares? Willing to do anything to prevent more cracking and chipping. Tired of wet Michigan weather!!! Followed directions as on bottle. Easy to use, kinda pricey, but feel it’s worth it. Already ordered next bottle. ”

Human beings are animal lovers by nature. It is innate in us to be emotionally attached to our pets more than our human friends do. Unlike their human counterpart, animals do not have the ability to communicate the way humans do, thus, no matter how much human beings rant, they lie down or sit still, silently and lazily paying their human counterpart curious glances. They are capable of great love and loyalty for their masters, sometimes more than humans do.
Many animal lovers have fantastic stories to tell about friendships, adventures and tragedies that proved their pets sacrificial love. The love that exists between pets and masters is surprisingly unbelievable but true owing to the fact that they have been featured in magazines and television programs. Famous celebrities, royalties and world leaders too have interesting encounters with their equally famous pets just like ordinary people do.
Hollywood actor Richard Gere, an active supporter of Chief Joseph Foundation, aimed at preserving cultural heritage among the Northwest tribes, was seen with his Appaloosas, a horse bred by the Nez Perce tribe. Geres passion for horses is amazingly shown as he is away from the limelight, without an assistant to attend to his needs and most importantly, he is not portraying a role that a movie calls for but being in his true identity as one showing his craziness over horses.
Sexy star Angeline Jolie, famous for her controversial kissing scene with her brother and colorful family members, was captured kissing a horse while Carmen Electra modeled a gown on a horseback. Whether it is for real or not, in one way or the other, they have surely shown their fondness for horses.
Julia Roberts, on the other hand, spent a number of weeks in a nomadic family in Mongolia sampling the nomads life having no amenities of modern and luxurious city living. Sharing an enduring passion and skill for horses among the Mongolian people, she came to understand why horses are essential part of their nomadic life. It is so surprisingly unbelievable that stars that shine from the skies will descend just to be with horses.
The Royal Family has dozens of different horses for different purposes. Some horses are mounted on only during state ceremonies, others are for riding only while some priced strong breeds are groomed as racehorses. Since 1945, The Windsor Horse Show, which features show jumping, gymkhana games, and a wide variety of equestrian sportsmanship is celebrated annually. Royalties such as Queen Elizabeths Stardust III and other horses won over 400 racing awards since her lifetime. The most famous horsewoman among the royalties of her time, Princess Anne competed in the 1976 Olympics and won a silver medal.
Famous or unknown, rich or poor, black or white, the love that exists between horses and humans knows no bounds or colors. Your horses deserve only the best that they can have through you because just like you, they have emotions.
